Jackie is justly proud as Jags show their mettle

-

JACKIE McNAMARA believes his Jags side can be winners — just like him — after they put another three points on the board at the expense of title favourites Dunfermline.

A first-half strike from Steve Lawless proved the difference in a hard-fought clash and McNamara said: ‘Our two wins this season have been a good mark to make.

‘I’ve been brought up to be a winner and have the desire to win all the time, and the signs are that my players have that desire as well.’

The Jags scored what proved to be the winner midway through the first half, Chris Erskine threading a pass to Lawless, who held off his marker before slotting home from 14 yards.

The visitors continued to make the running and might have extended their lead when Stephen O’Donnell’s firm shot was blocked in the home box.

Dunfermline almost hit back on the restart when Joe Cardle’s lob had Scott Fox at full stretch.

However, the home side struggled to build sustained pressure against a well-organised Jags outfit.

Pars boss Jim Jefferies remained upbeat, insisting: ‘Today was always going to be a good indicator of how we are going to do this season. Based on the second-half performance, we are going to be there or thereabouts.

‘We lost an avoidable goal but I thought we totally dominated the second half up to the final third, where our decision-making was poor.’
