Parsman Grainger aims high
DUNFERMLINE’S Danny Grainger hopes to help the Pars back to the Championship today and wants the club to aim even higher.
After Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Cowdenbeath, a home win would see them climbing back to the second tier.
The Pars have spent one season in League One since they failed to recover from their 15point penalty last year after plunging into administration.
Now, 12 months on, they have their sights set on a return and, with a crowd of over 8,000 expected, former Hearts man Grainger is aiming high.
He said: ‘This is just a step on the ladder to where Dunfermline deserve to be. We all know how big a club this is and they are not a League One team; they are a Premiership team.
‘Things have gone on in the past but the club is starting to move in the right direction now.
‘And it will be another step in that direction if we are promoted today.’
With Rangers and Hearts both confirmed participants in the Championship, chairmen are licking their lips at the prospect of increased revenue, while the players are looking forward to playing at the likes of Ibrox and Tynecastle.
Grainger added: ‘The Championship is going to be exciting and these are the sort of grounds you want to play at. The crowds in that league next year will rival the Premiership.’
Cowdenbeath’s Lewis Milne added: ‘With Rangers and Hearts in the league next season, everyone knows what’s at stake, particularly for a small club like us.’
