Rangers fans cautious over renewing corporate packages

- By Fraser Mackie

WEALTHY Rangers fans are set for a stand-off with the club over their corporate seat packages for next season.

Renewal forms for the members’ lounge are now with supporters, as the deadline for normal season tickets neared.

And despite chief executive Graham Wallace chairing a meeting with a handful of the influential fans from the corporate section last week, the regulars are still reluctant to commit as they do not trust the current board at Ibrox.

Those fans are not required to commit to the near £4,200 deal until the third week in June and they have been presented with a range of payment options.

Those include forking out up front with a five-per-cent discount, paying in four instalments until October and a ‘half-now, half-later’ arrangement.

Wallace has stressed to those stating their concerns there was no danger of Rangers being in financial peril — despite the slow uptake of season tickets.

But there remains pressure on the board to increase revenue streams during the summer.

The season-ticket deadline for existing seats at Ibrox was extended to take in the weekend and it’s understood that around 10,000 have completed that procedure.

That’s over 20,000 down on the previous year as fans flock to the Dave King plan of withholding payment until security is granted over Ibrox Stadium.

And with many members’ club patrons adopting a watching brief, the club looks like being denied a short-term injection.
