SUSAN Boyle provided a dose of skirl power yesterday when she officially opened one of the world’s biggest celebrations of Scottish culture.

The singing sensation donned her family tartan as she took on the role of Chieftain at the EFR Scotland British Pipe Band Championships and West Lothian Highland Games. And she proved she was game for laugh by posing with hammer throwing strongmen at the Meadow Park and Burgh Muir in Bathgate, West Lothian.

The singer, who is preparing for her first North American tour, said: ‘I was delighted to be asked to be Chieftain and very happy to get involved. It’s a huge event for West Lothian.’
