Fashion industry’s Made in Britain revolution
A MAJOR conference and trade show is being launched this month in a bid to revive Britain’s textile industry and put clothes makers in touch with stores.
Launched by website Make it British, the event will bring together more than 1,000 clothing retailers, buyers and manufacturers.
The Coalition’s High Street ‘tzar’ Mary Portas and internet retailer Asos will be there.
Kate Hills, founder of Make it British, says: ‘We are at the start of a new industrial revolution in textile and clothing manufacturing, but this will only happen if retailers, buyers, brands and manufacturers get together to make it happen.
‘Concern over complex supply chains and the use of unethical sweatshops, as well as rising costs overseas and quality issues has fuelled a huge increase in demand from clothing retailers and fashion brands looking to source locally in the UK.’
