We don’t trust you Dave – so we voted Ukip

-

I have voted Conservative all my life but did not do so in the recent elections. David Cameron has let us down: he knows the majority of Tory voters want us out of the EU but all he does is say things like: ‘Vote for me and I will let you have a referendum.’ Once we have voted for him he can go back on his word.

Hard luck, David. We can see through you and have shown you what we think by not voting Tory.

David Cameron should produce his negotiating strategy with the EU for the public as soon as possible so those who usually vote Conservative can see if it will persuade us to back his party at the next Election.

As things look, I think the Conservative Party is unlikely to be elected next May as no one will trust him to hold a proper inout vote without fudging the issue. Frank Myerscough, Warton, Lancashire David Cameron is appearing more and more like the ‘silver spooner’ he is and is now losing the support of working class Tories. Norman Woods, Billingham,

Co Durham I am at a complete loss to understand the swing to Ukip. At the next General Election, there are four realistically possible outcomes: a Conservative majority, a Labour majority, a coalition of Conservative/Lib Dem or a Labour/Lib Dem coalition. What is not realistic is a Ukip majority.

Labour is committed to staying in Europe, and so are the Lib Dems. So whoever forms a coalition with the Lib Dems will have to stay in Europe. Given the groundswell of opinion on Europe, I have no doubt the only possible way the Eurosceptics can get an in/out vote on Europe is to hope for a Conservative government.

The three main parties have largely ignored the concerns of the electorate, especially about unconstrained immigration and the EU. In some cases they attached to those concerns a wholly bogus label of racism. The party leaders now promise to listen, yet this is something they should have done throughout their terms of office.

Ukip performed well because, despite its many shortcomings, it has a policy of listening to the voters. The rest treated potential supporters with naked contempt.

Nigel Farage says he wants to destroy the Government that has rescued the country from economic disaster and that after he has destroyed the Tory Party and taken us out of Europe, he will retire. So he will leave other people to clean up the chaos he will cause.

He is just another vain politician who wants fame, glory and a place in the history books.
