Unbeaten... but disappointed
THE 1974 tournament saw the first appearance of the new World Cup, left, after the previous Jules Rimet Trophy was awarded permanently to the Brazilians following their third win in 1970. West Germany won the new trophy by beating Holland 2-1 in the final.
But the hosts’ 1-0 defeat to Cold War rivals East Germany in the group stage meant Scotland were the only unbeaten team in the tournament.
