so long ago the door to Robin Birley’s £1,500-a-year members’ club 5 Hertford St in Mayfair was a bottleneck of Royals and celebrities... but that was before Andre Balazs’ achingly cool Chiltern Firehouse opened in February.

In the past week alone Bill Clinton, Keira Knightley, Lindsay Lohan, Kiefer Sutherland and Kevin Spacey have been spotted at the Marylebone cocktail bar where admission is free – if you have the celebrity status to get past the door staff.

Now just two years after 5 Hertford St opened, Birley is planning to strike back with a new club concept to wrestle back the title of top celebrity hangout.

‘Everyone is talking about the prospect of a new cooler version of 5HS,’ a member of Birley’s club says. ‘The location hasn’t been decided on yet, but all the members are terribly excited.’
