milliner Lady Laura Cash celebrates her 30th birthday next month at her husband’s Elizabethan manor Upton Cressett.

But while friends such as Liz Hurley are expected to attend, one VIP guest will be missing – Laura’s beloved pug Damson, who vanished in February. In Damson’s absence new pug Thimble, above with Laura, will be guest of honour at the banquet.

‘Everyone will be in Elizabethan costume, including Thimble who is wearing a ruff,’ Laura said at Amanda Wakeley’s Mayfair townhouse at a pre-Ascot viewing of the hat collection Laura sells at Fortnum & Mason. ‘We will raise a glass in Damson’s honour.’
