Labour’s got a new Darling

PRIDE comes before a fall – but already Alistair Darling is being touted as the next leader of the Labour party if the No campaign wins the referendum. Having taken a claymore to Alex Salmond in the recent STV debate, he is now the Darling of many party colleagues looking desperately for an alternative to Ed Miliband before next year’s General Election. ‘Darling’s humiliation of Salmond was Labour’s first victory in anything for years,’ said one over-excited Labour MP. ‘In my dreams, Miliband steps down in his conference speech, hands over to Alistair and we win power.’ Of course, No has to win first.
