Turf TV turns big winner

- Sarah Bridge

MOVES by high street betting shops towards later opening hours to maximise revenues have been benefiting one company in particular.

Turf TV, which provides TV pictures of races to half of all UK betting shops, said last week that it has had a ‘winning summer’ with its late-night races being beamed from the US proving highly popular with punters. It plans to add to its racing coverage next year.

Accounts just filed by its parent company Amalgamated Racing – a joint venture backed by billionaire investor Joe Lewis and some of Britain’s top racecourses including Ascot – show that turnover was up from £57.1million to £69.4 million in the year to November 2013.

Profits increased slightly from £9.8 million to £10.7 million.

A dividend of £7.7million was paid to shareholders.
