Be careful what you wish for

Having had a kidney and my spleen removed, I read with a wry smile Philip Codd’s letter stating he would rather have his spleen taken out than wander around local markets on holiday. I would gladly swap a day’s discomfort not to have to take penicillin every day for the rest of my life.

Jane Barnett, Moira, Derbyshire My late husband had to have his spleen removed when he was 16. When he was 69 he developed non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and because he did not have a spleen he contracted infection after infection and died four months after diagnosis. So, Mr Codd, you need your spleen.
