‘Devil knife attacker’ manhunt is called off
A MANHUNT for a dangerous psychiatric patient – who once boasted he was worse than the devil – was called off last night.
The public had been warned not to approach Owen Bonner, once declared insane by a judge. He absconded during an escorted visit to Glasgow from a secure hospital on Friday.
But last night, it emerged he had handed himself in at Easterhouse police station.
A Scottish Government spokesman said: ‘He has voluntarily returned and is in police custody before being returned to a secure establishment.’
The 47-year-old has been in psychiatric care for the last 20 years after a brutal knife attack on two women during a fivehour siege in Lanarkshire.
Geraldine Henderson and Louise Ward were slashed by fellow worker Bonner after being taken hostage while they were on their shift at the Marshall’s Chunky Chicken factory, in Coatbridge.
During the incident, he made a series of bizarre demands, saying he wanted TV cameras and a Michael Jackson outfit.
The women later said Bonner was ranting, his eyes popping out of their sockets, screaming at the top of his lungs, mouth foaming. Every now and then he would slash one of his hostages.
At one point, he dragged Ms Henderson across the floor, roaring in her ear: ‘I am worse than the devil. Pray with me.’
