Overdue victory in Gala day
GALA recorded their first win in the BT Premiership since October as they held on to triumph 21-16 at Bridgehaugh against Stirling County yesterday.
John Brogan’s try gave the home side the lead and then Ruaridh Leishman made it 10-0 with a second.
But, just before the half-hour mark, Gala had fought back to go 12-10 up, tries coming from Keith Young and Grant Shiells.
Ewan Scott then kicked a penalty and Gala were 15-10 up at the interval.
Scott’s third of the day put Gala eight points clear with eight minutes to go.
County scored a late penalty, but Gala held on.
Edinburgh Accies are off the bottom after they defeated second-placed Ayr 11-8 at Raeburn Place.
The sides went in at the half-time break tied at 3-3, Callum Ramm and Ross Curle kicking penalties for their teams.
Ayr went ahead via a Rob McAlpine try, but Accies reduced the deficit with another Ramm penalty and then Ruairidh Young scored the winning try.
Heriot’s remain top after they won 36-3 at Boroughmuir.
The Goldenacre men played some great rugby and showed safe hands despite the snowy and windy conditions.
