Miller plans to be aiding Ibrox men in the top flight

- By Fraser Mackie

KENNY MILLER wants to be helping Rangers in the heat of a Ladbrokes Premiership title bid late into next season at the age of 37.

The striker has been reinvigorated by the arrival of his former Scotland colleague David Weir and manager Mark Warburton.

From a wide role, Miller — who came on as a sub against Raith Rovers yesterday — has scored five goals under the new regime, a tally he took until December to reach last season on his return for a third spell at Ibrox.

He is out of contract at the end of this season but is in no mood to leave Rangers and has his eyes on being part of a challenge to Celtic deep into the following campaign.

‘There is nowhere else I want to be,’ said Miller, who turns 36 in December. ‘It’s early days in the season, but I want to play as many games as I can, score as many goals as I can and play my part in getting the team back to the top flight — then ultimately challenging for the league next year.

‘Whether that happens earlier or later is out of my hands, but I will do whatever I can to make sure, come next year, we’re in the Premiership. And I want to be there.

‘I’m loving it. It has been a fantastic start to the season. Aside from the winning run, there’s the style of football we’re playing, the chances we’re creating.

‘My role has changed a little bit because of the formation. The manager might start me on the left or right, but I’m working through the middle and getting involved.

‘I’ve watched games back and I’m cropping up on the left when I should really be on the right, or I’m in a position just off the striker trying to get involved.

‘There is a certain freedom amongst the front three and the middle three to mingle, link up to find spaces where you can hurt other teams.

‘I’m involved in a lot of the game, scoring goals, getting chances, creating chances. I feel I’m really contributing towards the team.

‘Everybody here feels like that. There’s a real enjoyment in what we’re trying to do. I believe we will get stronger and better.’
