Forren targets progress with more of the same

- By Graeme Croser

HAVING endured a rainstorm at the Aker Stadium, Molde defender Vegard Forren is preparing for a different kind of deluge in Glasgow this week.

The Norwegians handled the squally downpour best to prevail 3-1 over Celtic 10 days ago and the 27-year-old defender is preparing to batten down the hatches as Ronny Deila’s men go for revenge on Thursday.

With seven points from their opening three Group A ties, Molde are perfectly placed to reach the knockout stages and will gladly sit back and allow Celtic to take the initiative.

The counterattacking ploy worked a treat for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on his return against the Scottish champions and Forren, who excelled in a midfield role against Celtic, sees no reason to change tactics.

‘Celtic have no room to work, they have to win the match, nothing less than three points will do for them and we will prepare for that,’ said Forren, who has 27 caps for Norway.

‘I know they were disappointed in Molde, although the conditions were poor and perhaps it will be unhelpful to make judgments on any team with so much water on the pitch.

‘Our players adapted to the surface much better than they did.

‘We believe we will score in Glasgow. We will get space to break into Celtic’s half and that is our reward for making such a great start to the group.

‘Nothing has been achieved so far, but we have provided ourselves with a great climax to the season, given our disappointing league campaign.’

Top six is as much as Molde can expect to attain in the Tippeligaen after Solskjaer’s day-one joy against Celtic was followed by a 2-1 victory at Aaalesund.

Tonight they meet Viking Stavanger in their final home league game before attention switches back to Europe.
