Our ultimate family place in the sun...

- By Laura Hamilton

TIME spent together as a family is precious, especially when you are a busy working mum. I’ve been part of Channel 4’s A Place In The Sun team for four years now. Not only do I feel I have one of the best jobs in the world, I am also lucky because I am able to take my children, Rocco and Tahlia, who are both under two, with me.

For our first holiday as a family of four, my husband Alex and I plumped for Sardinia, an island we had visited before having children.

On this occasion we splashed out on Club class seats with British Airways. On short-haul flights it’s always worth checking out the prices because they are often not that much more than Economy tickets.

We were greeted at Cagliari airport by a driver from our tour operator Classic Collection, and within 40 minutes we were pulling into the Forte Village. General manager Marcello gave us a quick tour and an overview of the facilities – eight hotels, 21 restaurants, football, rugby, netball, boxing and dance academies, designer shops, a pharmacy, tennis courts, a spa, a go-kart track, nine swimming pools, a children’s club and a nursery. Phew!

We were lucky enough to get a quick peek of the Royal suite – such a shame it was over our budget. However, we were extremely impressed by our spacious room in the newly renovated five-star Il Castello hotel.

We’ve been to big hotels before but this was a resort on an epic scale. The only problem was deciding how to fill our day with so many exciting possibilities to choose from.

The great thing about the place is that families with children can be certain of having endless fun. It’s also a holiday with relaxation built in. Whenever I wanted to visit the spa, for example, I could be confident of being able to get help with minding the children.

We had an unforgettable experience. We have definitely found our great place in the sun.
