2 SCHOOLS CASH BOOST

MORE cash and power is set to be handed to heads of poorly-performing schools under reforms to be spelled out by the First Minister.

Miss Sturgeon has promised that education will be at the heart of her Programme For Government. She is expected to outline plans for an Education Bill which will lead to an increase in control and decision-making by schools, taking power away from councils.

The reforms will include plans to make schools directly responsible for the education of pupils for the first time. At the moment only councils are under a duty to educate pupils to their ‘fullest potential’.
