MILLER AIMING TO TURN THE CELTIC FANS INTO BOO BHOYS
KENNY MILLER has urged his Rangers team-mates to step into the lion’s den with confidence on Saturday and turn the Parkhead faithful against their own side.
The veteran striker prepared for the first Old Firm league match of the season by scoring four goals in a 7-0 friendly win against Linfield at Windsor Park yesterday and insists he cannot wait to taste the altogether more intimidating electricity of Celtic Park for the first time in five years.
‘I hope the players rise to the atmosphere,’ said Miller. ‘It is a hostile environment, but it is an atmosphere I thrive off.
‘It is an opportunity to go there and silence 55,000 fans and turn them. I am sure a lot of teams coming to Ibrox say they have to try to turn the fans on us.
‘We have the opportunity to do that in what is a fantastic atmosphere to play in. It is a great fixture to be part of. For me, when I left five years ago, I maybe never thought I’d never have the opportunity to play in another one.
‘It is hard to prepare people for the game. You can try to pass on the experiences you have had and let them know about the atmosphere, but until you sample it, it is hard to explain.
‘We had a good build-up with the win in the Cup last season. The experienced players who have come in have played in huge games all over the world, so that will stand us in good stead.’
Miller accepts there has been criticism of the way Rangers have been performing with so many new players coming into the squad over the summer, but he insists he saw real signs of improvement in Belfast.
‘For us, it served a really good purpose for us,’ he said. ‘The movement and creation of chances was better. It was a good all-round performance.’
