MELROSE FLY TO VICTORY OVER HAWKS
MELROSE made it two wins from two in the BT Premiership with a clinical display at Glasgow Hawks.
The visitors came flying out of the blocks to finish up 37-17 winners.
An early converted try by Austin Lockington put them 7-0 up before a penalty got Hawks into the game.
However, the rest of the first half belonged to Melrose as two penalties by Jason Baggott and then a converted try by George Taylor made it 20-3.
After the break, Taylor added another and although Hawks did fight back, a late try from Ross McCann secured the bonus point for Melrose and the victory.
In a repeat of last year’s league final, Ayr turned the tables with a win over Heriot’s at Goldenacre.
David Armstrong scored a last-gasp try, converted by Frazier Climo, as Ayr came out on top 23-18.
Watsonians secured their second triumph in a row as they saw off Hawick 24-9.
Nathan Borel, Sean Crombie and Ewan Scott all grabbed tries for the victors.
Boroughmuir got off the mark with a thrilling 35-28 home success over Stirling County. Their tries came from Chris Laidlaw, Matthew Tweddle, Dougie Hearn and Jordan Edmunds.
Gala got a priceless away win at Currie, Josh Irvine scored their fourth try in a 28-23 bonus-point victory.
