Verstappen ‘death’ jibe at Villeneuve
RED Bull’s Max Verstappen has turned on Jacques Villeneuve for criticising his gung-ho racing style by pointing out that the former world champion was once involved in a death.
After Verstappen By Jonathan McEvoy defended aggressively at last week’s Belgian Grand Prix, Villeneuve said: ‘What he did to Kimi Raikkonen twice on the straight and to [Sebastian] Vettel was wrong. Just calm down. You’re going to kill someone.’
But Verstappen hit back, saying: ‘He should watch a little with his statement that someone might die because he himself has been involved in a fatal accident.’
The accident took place at the Australian Grand Prix in 2001 when Villeneuve was involved in a collision and a flying wheel from the Canadian’s car killed a marshal.
