Doctor accused of Cantlie kidnap returns to Syria

-

AN NHS doctor accused of kidnapping British hostage John Cantlie is back in Syria treating patients in a city controlled by terrorists.

Dr Shajul Islam, 30, is believed to have been part of a group which snatched photographer Cantlie, 45, near Aleppo in 2012. When Islam returned to the UK he was put on trial but the case collapsed without Cantlie, who is still missing.

He has been seen in videos online tending to people injured by bombings in Idlib, a city controlled by the Nusra Front, a branch of Al-Qaeda recently rebranded as Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham in a bid to make it more palatable to the West.

Islam qualified from London University and worked at St Bart’s, going to Syria in 2012. He was struck off this year.
