BRITAIN’S ‘Top 10’ medical negligence firms claimed a whopping £80million from the NHS last year. They can run up huge fees by billing for specialist lawyers who charge at least £300 an hour. Among the top firms is York-based Pryers, run by founder Ian Pryer, pictured left dressed as The Joker while raising money for Children In Need. Mr Pryer, 53, said much of the costs his firm received were to cover bills incurred in cases such as court fees and insurance, which had risen significantly in recent years. There is no suggestion that Pryers has submitted any inflated bills.
