WEBSITES including YourParkingSpace, JustPark and Park On My Drive provide details of private driveways where you can park – without getting a ticket.

Heidi Cattanach, 54, from Cockfosters, North London, is co-owner of Park On My Drive, set up a decade ago. She got the idea after regular visits to a hospital where the car park was often full and she risked a penalty for overstaying if her treatment took longer than expected. ‘All those expensive penalties made me knock on a few doors of nearby homes to see if people would be interested in renting out their driveways,’ she said.

Driveway owners pay £15 a year to sign up to Park On My Drive. YourParkingSpace charges a ‘service fee’ equivalent to 20 per cent of the rental fee. JustPark takes 20 per cent of the charge a motorist pays for using a drive. These websites offer a variety of ways to pay – including using a debit or credit card and PayPal.
