Confidentiality breach has Skinner feeling frustrated with authorities
CYCLING, of course, goes on. But it does so under a cloud so dark that both Team Sky and British Cycling have been engulfed by allegations of wrongdoing.
At the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow, Callum Skinner, another Olympic gold medallist from these parts, voiced his frustration that the confidential medical files of some GB athletes, including his own, have been leaked by hackers.
The release, by the Russian group calling themselves the ‘Fancy Bears’, has proved to be the catalyst for a grim few weeks in the world of British cycling.
Skinner, winner of the men’s team sprint in Rio, said: ‘We put so much trust in the authorities and for this to happen is incredibly disappointing.’
He added that he was ‘staggered that so many files were leaked’ and that all GB athletes are ‘happy to comply with anti-doping rules and regulations at all times’.
Heroes from the Rio Olympics were back racing on a British track, competing at the second round of the Revolution track cycling series.
Skinner added: ‘Being in Glasgow is great, I love racing here in front of such a good crowd and it is exactly what you want returning from the Olympics.’
