Corben birdie blitz does the trick as Porters Park earn place in the finals

SURREY county champion and captain David Corben produced a birdie blitz at Stoneham to send Porters Park into the grand finals of The Mail on Sunday Classic for a second time, writes Cara Sloman.

The plus-four golfer reeled off 10 birdies to triumph 2&1 and clinch a 3-2 win for the Hertfordshire side who earn a place at El Rompido in Spain where they will be one of four men’s and four women’s teams battling it out to be crowned champions.

‘That had to be one of the finest rounds of this year’s entire tournament,’ said team captain Jason Mitchell. ‘David is our star player and he’s pretty special. He knew that only the best of performances would be good enough.’
