Victim winning f ight for life after blaze

- By Jonathan Bucks

A YOUNG woman left battling for her life after a house fire that killed her boyfriend was last night showing signs of improvement.

A week ago the blaze which claimed the life of 23-year-old Cameron Logan left Bex Williams, 24, in a critical condition in Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

But last night doctors said that following a ‘slight improvement’ her condition was ‘serious but stable’. The fire was started deliberately several hours after the couple returned to the house in Milngavie, near Glasgow, on New Year’s Day following Hogmanay celebrations at a nearby house party.

Miss Williams, who had been dating psychology student Mr Logan for a year, was dragged from the house by a brave neighbour after the fire started around 7.25am. The killer has not yet been traced and police have yet to identify a motive.

Today officers are due to question members of the public in Milngavie. Officers were scheduled to hold an early morning ‘stop and talk’ between 6.30-8.30am, around the same time that dog walkers and passers-by might have been out and about last Sunday.

A spokesman said: ‘The response to our appeal for people in the area to come forward, and for the man in Army clothing who walks there, has been good and any information gleaned is being followed up.’

On Friday, Miss Williams’ father Phillip took to social media to thank hundreds of well-wishers who had left messages of support for his radio journalist daughter.

Mr Williams, who has been at her bedside with her mother Lisa since the blaze, wrote on Facebook that his daughter was ‘fighting hard’.
