Hull dispose of Swansea as the fans stay away

-

HULL CITY swept aside Swansea City in front of just 6,608 fans to progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup after a 2-0 win at the KCOM Stadium.

The home side’s supporters were protesting the club’s owners as the two Premier League strugglers battled out an open game.

Top goalscorer Robert Snodgrass was guilty of wasting a good chance as Sam Clucas misfired twice.

The introduction of Abel Hernandez was the pivotal moment in the match. In the 78th minute, he finished as Shaun Maloney got behind the defence to present the Uruguayan with the opportunity.

Academy product Josh Tymon scored his first senior goal in the dying seconds to wrap up the win, giving Marco Silva a victory on his managerial debut for Hull.

Speaking of the sparse crowd, Silva said: ‘It’s important our fans believe in our team. We need help.’

Elsewhere, Watford progressed to the fourth round after defeating Burton Albion 2-0.

Midfielder Christian Kabasele struck in just 21 minutes for the Premier League side following a Brandon Mason low cross.

Jerome Sinclair added the second after the break to score his first goal for the club.

Burton, 21st in the Championship, did not manage a shot on goal.

Watford boss Walter Mazzarri was pleased with his side. He said: ‘It is a good win for a team not doing well. This will help with confidence.’

Meanwhile, Sunderland and Burnley played out a dire goalless draw at the Stadium of Light.

Bolton and Crystal Palace will also need a replay to decide who goes through after a dreary 0-0 draw at the Macron Stadium.
