Caribbean heatwave heads for Scotland
A CARIBBEAN heatwave will this week blast across the Atlantic making parts of Scotland as warm as southern Spain, Majorca, Minorca and Sardinia.
Thermometers could read 17C (63F) in the North-east towns of Aboyne, Forfar, and Banchory on Monday morning.
Sabrina Lee, a meteorologist at Meteogroup, said: ‘High pressure situated over the Azores, in the Atlantic, is known as the Azores High.
‘Milder sub-tropical air is currently being fed up and around the northern part of the high this weekend with relatively warmer temperatures being felt across the UK.
‘This means that we will see some milder temperatures for the early part of this week.
‘The best chance of the highest temperatures in Scotland on Monday will be to the east of high ground, in the North-east.
‘Temperatures may locally reach 16/17C (61/63F), which could be on par with some spots in southern Spain, Majorca, Minorca and Sardinia.
‘Later on in the day a cold front will sweep in, leaving behind colder air.
‘At times this week it is expected to be unsettled, as it will be rather wet and also windy, and we will lose the milder air.’
The increase in temperature could cause hedgehogs to come out of hibernation early.
Numerous spring and winter plants are also expected to be seen blossoming next to each other.
