DAN DESPERATE TO PROVE THAT THE DRAGONS ARE NOT LACKING DESIRE

- By Alex Bywater

A PACKED house and a burning desire to atone for a poor second-half display against Scotland means Wales will not lack motivation in their meeting with Ireland.

Rob Howley’s side are out of contention for this Six Nations title after defeat at Murrayfield — a result which saw Wales face a public backlash for their failure to make the most of what were at least three clear-cut tryscoring opportunities.

Dan Biggar also faced personal accusations he had overruled Alun Wyn Jones in kicking to touch in Edinburgh.

The 27-year-old was hurt by such claims but with that incident now in the past, Biggar is focusing only on Friday’s clash with Ireland, saying: ‘Motivation is not difficult. It’s a boyhood dream, so it is not difficult running out at the Principality Stadium in front of 75,000 people against a very good side.

‘Ireland were stunned at Murrayfield, but they have been on a roll since then and this is a mustwin game for them.

‘We’ve got two huge games to show we’re better than what we produced in Scotland.’

Should Wales fail to win one of their remaining two games, they will drop out of the world’s top-eight ranked teams.

If that happens, they will face a potential nightmare pool stage draw for the 2019 World Cup.

And Biggar is aware his team must improve in the weeks ahead.

‘We’re not hiding behind the fact we’ve spilled a lot of ball and made a lot of errors,’ he said. ‘It is not about feeling sorry for ourselves and sulking in the corner. It is about fronting up and making sure we are better for Ireland.’
