Lee is fired up to ruin Celtic’s record bids

few incentives,’ declared Wallace. ‘We understand every record Celtic have broken so far — and the ones they can still do if they go on to win this fixture.

‘We play them two more times in the league and we want to stop them doing the clean sweep on us. The Treble is still there and we are aware of all that.

‘It would be nice to put a stop to all these things by going there and winning. If we do that, we’ll generate confidence and finish the season strongly.

‘We understand the task. They have individuals who can hurt us — they have done that already.

‘And they’ve done it in every game they’ve played this season, so we respect that. But we can’t just sit there, accept it and applaud. We must make sure we can rise to the game.

‘With the confidence we have built in the last two games — and going into this task being written off by everyone — we can enjoy that responsibility, the task in hand, and try to win it.’

Wallace, who cut a devastated figure when speaking in the immediate aftermath of September’s 5-1 hammering, believes the two subsequent meetings give Rangers hope.

He led his team when they suffered a late loss at Hampden in October’s Betfred Cup semi-final, but was out injured when Celtic came from behind at Ibrox to claim a 2-1 victory on Hogmanay.

‘It was hard to speak after the 5-1 game. Losing in that manner was unacceptable,’ added Wallace. ‘It was a hurting dressing room.

‘It was one of the low points for the guys who experienced this fixture before. You have to get yourself motivated for the next one and I feel we’ve always done that.

‘We forgot about it because there were games coming up after it. While it can be fresh in the mind, we know that we are obviously different to what we were back then.

‘There have been a number of changes in players and staff, so we will just go there excited about the fixture.

‘In the other two games, in the opening periods we were really competitive and more than matched their intensity.

‘At Ibrox, we got ourselves in front. In the end, their quality shone through but there were more positive signs there for us.’
