Joshua’s £1billion punch
BRITAIN’S Anthony Joshua blasted his way to victory over Wladimir Klitschko in an epic encounter last night, putting himself on course to become the world’s first boxing billionaire.
Watford-born Joshua was down on the mat in round six, and it took until round 11 for him to destroy the legendary Ukrainian fighter with a brutal upper cut in front of a sell-out 90,000 crowd at Wembley Stadium. Millions more fans around the world watched the drama unfold on television as the heavyweights traded volley after volley of punishing blows.
The build-up to the fight sparked a global gambling gold rush with an estimated £100 million placed in bets, £20 million in the UK alone. Joshua once said: ‘When I first started, the aim was to become a multi-millionaire. But now there are ordinary people worth millions just because of property prices.
‘So the new school of thought is that I need to be a billionaire.’
He already held the IBF world title going into last night’s fight and his victory secured him the WBA and IBO titles too.
