Nicky Haslam is becoming a stage star. Nicky – who has already sung at private parties in front of the Queen and made a CD with the likes of Bryan Ferry – will be starring in his own cabaret, called Wherever There’s Love, at jazz haunt The Pheasantry in Chelsea on May 7 and 8. Nicky will sing numbers by Cole Porter, Frank Sinatra and Duke Ellington. He became a fan of the music when suffering from polio as a boy, and says: ‘We had all those albums of 78s. I was word-perfect in Ethel Merman by the time I was eight.’ He has already released a CD called Midnight Matinee, on which he performed with Bryan Ferry, Bob Geldof, Helena Bonham Carter and the late Cilla Black.
