Andrew speaks up for Press freedom
THE battle to protect Press freedom has received Royal backing – from Prince Andrew.
The Duke of York defended British journalists despite his often turbulent relationship with newspapers and broadcasters.
He was at the Press Club Awards to collect the top honour, Londoner of the Year, on behalf of the Queen. The Duke told his audience of senior journalists and editors at the Corinthia Hotel, Whitehall: ‘Even though we [the Royals] get criticised, keep doing what you do.’
The Prince also paid tribute to the Press for the vital role it plays in democracy.
The award judges praised the Queen’s ‘unstinting and faithful service to London’.
