WHY DO LOUD NOISES HURT MY EARS?

-

Dr Steve Iley, Bupa UK’s medical director, says: ‘The ear drums respond to any sound by vibrating, which creates movement in the fluid that sits behind them. Located in this fluid are tiny hair cells that move around. If they move too violently as a result of loud noise, your ears can hurt. Exposure to loud noises over time can lead to permanent hearing damage.’
