The perfect gift? A day off and chocolate

Shoe repair chain boss John Timpson is to be commended for giving his staff the day off for their birthday – but he’s not the only one looking after his staff and recognising them for their work. I work for a very large international company, and I too get my birthday off (and a box of Hotel Chocolat chocolates). My birthday falls on Christmas Eve, which is one of the busiest days of the year for us, yet the company still allows me to have the day to myself. Staff also submit charity ideas and the company will always put its hand in its pocket and help out. It’s nice to know that there are good bosses out there. Janet Fenton, Sheffield
