Robinson’s rage over yet another ‘goal’

- By Gary Keown

FURIOUS Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson insists Scottish football is destined to become a laughing stock unless video evidence is brought in to pick up on clear goals being regularly missed.

Ben Heneghan saw a header cross the line before being cleared by Tom Hateley with the Fir Park side 3-1 down to Dundee with 13 minutes to play, but referee Steven McLean and linesman Anthony Cooper waved play on.

Chris Cadden did make it 3-2 three minutes later, but Heneghan believes his ‘goal’ would have changed the game, with Robinson branding the error ‘a disgrace’.

Heneghan had another header over the line not given against Hamilton earlier this term, while Scott McDonald saw an effort in the net ignored in a defeat at Dens Park.

McDonald also had a goal given against Inverness Caley Thistle two weeks ago, which had come nowhere close to crossing the line.

‘This is the top division and there are massive things at stake,’ stated Robinson. ‘They have to change or it becomes a laughing stock.

‘How long does it take to produce video evidence? It has taken me 20 seconds to look at it and see it is a goal.

‘Steven McLean gets no help from the man on the other side of the pitch and it is a disgrace.

‘People lose their jobs over decisions like this and it just can’t continue to happen.’
