Butland is back to Hammer down point for the Potters
JACK BUTLAND marked his first home match for Stoke City in the league since March 2016 with a clean sheet as the Potters secured a valuable point with a 0-0 draw against West Ham United.
Butland, returning after an ankle injury picked up on England duty, was the busier of the two goalkeepers in the first half, saving Manuel Lanzini’s effort before pulling off a wondrous stop from an Andre Ayew overhead kick.
The Hammers did not have it all their own way, with Marko Arnautovic forcing a point-blank save from Adrian with a volley.
‘I felt really good being out there again. I’m pleased to be able to contribute and keep a clean sheet today,’ said Butland. ‘The fans have been incredible over the last 13 months. It’s been tough personally and I enjoyed the really good reception.’
Goals from Ashley Barnes and Andrew Gray secured a 2-0 for Burnley at Crystal Palace, while Leicester City triumphed at West Brom thanks to Jamie Vardy’s effort.
Meanwhile, Southampton and Hull City played out a 0-0 draw at St Mary’s.
