Pre-Becks, there was another iconic No 7

-

Before David Beckham made the No7 the most iconic number in British sport, Sheene was famous for wearing that very number on his motorcycle leathers. He dominated the 1976 and 1977 world 500cc championships, scoring more than half his wins during those years.

His 15-year career earned him an MBE and, such was his superiority, that he remained the only British rider to win a MotoGP race until Cal Crutchlow’s victory in 2016. He was also Britain’s last motorcycle world champion until Danny Kent in 2015.
