McCann ashamed by drubbing
NEIL McCANN last night declared himself embarrassed by Dundee’s final performance of the season as he prepares for crunch talks with the club’s board of directors.
McCann was placed in interim charge of the Dens Park outfit following Paul Hartley’s sacking and succeeded in preserving the club’s Premiership status.
A midweek defeat to Inverness was followed by yesterday’s 4-0 drubbing at Hamilton Accies.
‘I’m embarrassed to be part of it,’ said McCann. ‘It doesn’t sit well with me. I’ve heard loads of people say: “Well done in the job for keeping Dundee up”.
‘Yeah, it’s been great to come back and be part of keeping the club in the Premiership but I didn’t enjoy the past two games, and certainly not that today.’
McCann claimed yesterday’s loss would have no significant bearing on whether he remains in situ for next season.
Of much greater importance will be the considerations of his current employers Sky, for whom he has been an established television analyst for several years. He offered no timescale but admitted he could not continue permanently in both roles.
‘I will give the club the respect they deserve,’ he said.
‘There’s already been discussions about possible signings for next year but I have to do my job at Sky now. I have carried out what I have been asked to do for this one.
‘The overriding feeling at the moment is disappointment. Maybe I will look back in a couple of weeks and think I have done a job but today doesn’t feel good.’
