FRASER BACK AT FULL THROTTLE AND SET TO BE AN ASSET FROM THE BENCH

- By Fraser Mackie

GORDON STRACHAN has hinted Ryan Fraser could be the perfect impact substitute against England.

The Bournemouth winger was denied a Scotland debut two months ago when suffering a swollen knee in training ahead of the Canada friendly and Slovenia tie.

Back fit with his club, Fraser’s blistering form for the English Premier League’s ninth-placed team continued as he helped them finish with three wins and two draws.

The 23-year-old (right) is now the challenger to James Forrest for one of the wide roles in Strachan’s side.

And if he doesn’t land a starting role on June 10, Fraser’s speed and trickery would be an intriguing option to bring off the bench.

‘We had a glimpse of Ryan in training and he was fantastic,’ said Strachan. ‘That was exciting for us and it was just disappointing for him that he couldn’t ultimately play.

‘He would have been involved somewhere along the line.

‘Ryan is quite similar to James. But at different times one can be in better form than the other. ‘James was regular a couple of months ago, but not so regular now. ‘Ryan has been in and out, but always a good sub, as well as a good starter. ‘Some people aren’t good substitutes. But Ryan can also do that. I think Ryan’s attitude is fantastic. ‘It might not all be about technique with your performance. ‘It can be about mental strength and how you prepare for being a substitute. Ryan can certainly do that.’
