Now that IS a shock! Britain’s Got Tasteful as Amanda turns elegant in final

- By Chris Hastings

AFTER attracting more than 200 complaints to broadcasting watchdog Ofcom over her barely-there dress on Thursday’s semi-final, Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden staged a great cover-up for last night’s final.

The star was a picture of elegant modesty in a stunning wedding dress-inspired gown.

The cream frock, with striking lace patterns, was made by British designer Suzanne Neville. Miss Holden’s shoes, hidden by a long train, were by Aruna Seth.

Alesha Dixon, by comparison, wore a short silver dress as the pair joined fellow judges Simon Cowell and

‘The coolest act in the history of the show’

David Walliams. Thursday’s outfit was just the latest in a series of revealing dresses Miss Holden had worn on the show, including another plunging number on Wednesday.

The final was won by pianist Tokio Myers, who had turned his life around after witnessing the horrifying murder of his headteacher, Philip Lawrence.

The 32-year-old, who mashes up pop songs with classical pieces, performed excerpts from Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo And Juliet, the film theme Interstellar by Hans Zimmer, and Rag ‘n’ Bone Man’s hit Human.

Myers couldn’t believe he had topped the public vote and collapsed on the stage when the result was announced. He said: ‘What is going on? I can’t believe what just happened. Thank you, thank you.’

A staggering 2.5million people voted in the final, which ended with Myers scooping £250,000 and a slot on the Royal Variety Show.

Cowell told him: ‘It was absolutely breathtakingly good. As an artist and a person I could not be happier for what you did.’

Myers was 11 when Mr Lawrence was stabbed at the gates of St George’s High School in Maida Vale, West London. He said: ‘If he’s looking down, I think Mr Lawrence would be very proud.’

The musician – real name Torville Jones – also said he was looking forward to a proper reunion with music teacher Joe Morgan, who dragged him to safety on that fateful day in 1995.

Earlier in the series more than ten million viewers saw Tokio lost for words when he discovered Mr Morgan had been in the studio audience watching him perform.

Tokio said: ‘I had no idea that was going to happen. It was complete and utter shock and surprise. I’m really glad to be in touch with him.’

After his performance last night, Miss Holden told Tokio: ‘You have come from nothing but tonight you became everything’. Ms Dixon described him as ‘the coolest act in the history of the show’.

Tokio – who once spent three months touring with Amy Winehouse – said: ‘Being on BGT has been amazing. I don’t let things get to me. But it’s made me a lot stronger. It has made me understand who I am.’

Runner-up was eight-year-old magician Issy Simpson, and comedian Daliso Chaponda, from Malawi, came third.
