Stay still, you pilchard!• How Ross gets his gloss

... and the other scenes you definitely won’t see when Poldark gallops back on to our screens

HE has been described as the sexiest man on TV, thanks to his brooding portrayal as the heroic Ross Poldark. But our exclusive pictures show even Aidan Turner needs a little help to ensure he looks his best.

The 33-year-old is seen getting some lastminute attention from make-up artist Charlotte Broadbent as the BBC blockbuster is filmed on location in Cornwall.

It is just one of the intimate moments captured for today’s Mail on Sunday Event magazine, which was given exclusive access to the set. Another photograph shows actress Beatie Edney, who plays plain-speaking servant Prudie Paynter, breaking the illusion of 18th Century life by whipping out her iPhone for a quick selfie with her co-stars.

Our peak behind the scenes also hints at better times to come for Demelza Poldark, played by Eleanor Tomlinson, when the series returns to BBC1 at 9pm next Sunday. She and her husband Ross find themselves in a much better financial position, meaning Miss Tomlinson can swap Demelza’s normally drab garb for high fashions that befit her new-found status.

The new series will again find Ross torn between Demelza and first love Elizabeth Warleggan, played by Heida Reed – a relationship further complicated by the fact that Elizabeth is pregnant.

The show’s six million fans have yet to learn if the father of the child is Elizabeth’s scheming husband George, played by Jack Farthing, or her former lover Ross – who forced himself on her in the last series.
