Fuel firm in the dark on who it billed

-

R.J. writes: I have received numerous requests to pay an outstanding balance to ScottishPower, yet I have contacted the company several times and explained that I was not the occupant of the property at the time in question. I ASKED ScottishPower to look into the demands you received and staff pointed out that they were addressed simply to ‘The Occupier’ – though this is little consolation to you, as it would still leave you fearing a knock on the door and the threat of disconnection.

ScottishPower says it was never paid for electricity used at your address before you moved in, which was in October last year, and it has no idea who was living there.

The company has now told me: ‘We are aware that Mr J is not liable for this outstanding balance. To prevent further letters being issued to his address, we have removed the balance completely and cancelled any follow-up letters.

‘We apologise for any inconvenience caused.’
