THE Tories were just 66 votes away from gain­ing a ma­jor­ity, ex­perts say. The party lost three key con­stituen­cies – Kens­ing­ton by a mere 20 votes, Perth and North Perthshire by 21 votes and Dudley North by 22 votes. Had they se­cured them, they would have fin­ished with enough seats for a work­ing ma­jor­ity.

The max­i­mum num­ber of vot­ing MPs is 639 be­cause Sinn Fein’s seven MPs do not take up their seats, and the Speaker and his three deputies do not vote.
