Talisman Folau too hot for brave Fiji to handle
AUSTRALIA warmed up for their clash against Scotland next week with a convincing victory over Fiji.
Israel Folau scored two of the Aussies’ five tries in an impressive attacking display.
Michael Cheika’s side stormed out the blocks and raced 18-0 clear at half-time.
It took full-back Folau just three minutes to get off the mark. He claimed a high kick from Bernard Foley by outjumping his man to cross over. Foley added the conversion, then kicked over a penalty.
Henry Speight dived over in the corner to put Australia in charge at the break.
Folau grabbed his second try 15 minutes after the interval. He timed his run to perfection and Foley delayed the pass to allow Folau to storm clear.
However, Austraila were leaking chances to the Fijians and their enterprising style yielded two tries midway into the second period of the match.
Stephen Moore crossed for Austraila in between and Speight had the final say in the last minute to secure a commanding victory.
Australia head coach Cheika said: ‘All in all, our defence was pretty solid.
‘Fiji had the majority of the ball. But when we did have the ball, we did some very good things with it, scoring five tries.’
