Such a simple way to deal with stress

- By Dr Ellie Cannon

CAMILLA’S symptoms of exhaustion and burnout are very familiar. I see a great deal of work-related stress in my clinic.

She seems to have suffered with work addiction, a compulsion or obsession like any other addiction, which has made her keep pushing and driving herself to be the top of her game.

In professional performers such as dancers, this is quite common, due to the training they have to undertake, but there comes a time where it can lead to burnout.

The highs of work addiction come from success, and conquering more and more professional challenges.

However, this can quickly become addictive, especially as Camilla points out she was using it to mask symptoms of stress and depression.

The very simple notion of taking naps and time out to relax has been shown to be incredibly healing.

I frequently recommend scheduling in relaxation and naptime into hectic routines.

Time and again, patients can’t believe these simple steps can make such a difference, but they really do help prevent stress and burnout.
