Not so fast your Royal Highnesses, haven’t you forgotten something?

- By Jim Lawson

HE has previously admitted to becoming forgetful of faces during his public duties.

But it would appear that forgetfulness extends to the rules of the road for the Prince of Wales, not to mention his daughter-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge.

Neither was wearing a seat belt on recent journeys on public roads in Royal Deeside.

In Prince Charles’s case, he failed to belt up in the front passenger seat during a seven-mile trip last weekend, accompanied by his security team, from his estate at Birkhall to Crathie Kirk.

He has also been spotted several times in the driving seats of his trademark green Audi and Range Rover Sport, travelling along the B976 to the kirk without a seat belt.

The fact that he was involved in an accident last year when he hit a deer appears to have done little to change his stance.

He has even been seen without his seat belt on the busy A93 towards Braemar.

Meanwhile, Kate, who is pregnant with her third child, did not wear a seat belt as she travelled in the back seat to the kirk on August 20.

Ironically, her husband, Prince William, who was in the front, could be seen clearly wearing his seat belt.

It is not the first time those staying at Balmoral have flouted the law.

In 2000, on their annual visit to the Queen’s Highland estate as guests of the Royal Family, Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie sparked a road safety row by failing to wear seat belts while being driven to church.

Yesterday, Clarence House, for the Prince of Wales, who today becomes the longest-ever heir to the throne, and Kensington Palace, for the Duchess of Cambridge, declined to comment.
