CAIXINHA WILL TURN TO JOSE IN TIMES OF CRISIS
PEDRO CAIXINHA has revealed Jose Mourinho is the man he will turn to for reassurance that Rangers are on the right road under his stewardship.
The Manchester United manager is the leading figure among Portuguese coaches around the globe and, during his travels, Caixinha has used a hotline to Mourinho for advice.
Now handling huge expectations at one of Britain’s most famous clubs, following spells managing in Qatar and Mexico, Caixinha has more in common these days with his countryman.
Caixinha spent four days of his international break lecturing at a postgraduate course for future coaches at the University of Lisbon, just as Mourinho did in June.
Although they shared that stage, Caixinha admits he will always be reverential towards the ex-Chelsea and Real Madrid boss and would seek his counsel in the tougher times.
Caixinha said: ‘If you ask me which manager you would call to discuss football and training, then it’s Jose. First of all because he’s the best.
‘There was a time when we spoke regularly but not anymore. In those days, I was an assistant looking for knowledge and making sure I was heading in the right direction.
‘Now my time is overloaded but, whenever I do need to speak to Jose, I go directly to him.
‘He is the only one in football — there is no one better. His advice has helped me, totally.’
