Kane kicks off September with his century strike for Spurs

-

AUGUST is over, which can mean only one thing — Harry Kane will start finding the net for Tottenham again. Sure enough, he obliged, scoring his 100th for his club in the process.

Kane, without a goal in 13 August matches, got off the mark for the new campaign as Spurs dispatched Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park.

After collecting the ball wide on Everton’s left after a Spurs corner, Kane looked up and crossed.

Home goalkeeper Jordan Pickford seemed to have everything under control but Kane’s cross somehow found the back of the net, looping over the young stopper.

When asked if he meant to score, Kane said: ‘No, I didn’t. Got a lucky one but sometimes you need that.’

Christian Eriksen put the visitors in command just before half-time, the Dane hammering home from close range after Ben Davies’ shot was blocked.

Less than a minute into the second half and the match was over as a contest, Kane with a neat finish for his 100th Spurs strike.

He added: ‘It is fantastic. It has been a crazy few years and to get the 100th goal was amazing. I hope I can get a few more.’

The win lifts Spurs up to fifth in the table following a stuttering start but for Everton, after a summer of spending, it was another chastening loss after their 2-0 defeat to Chelsea before the international break.

The champions picked up their third win in a row with a 2-1 victory at Leicester.

Alvaro Morata continued to show his worth with another goal on 41 minutes.

N’Golo Kante put Antonio Conte’s side 2-0 ahead five minutes into the second half fired home from 30 yards.

The Foxes would not roll over, however, and Jamie Vardy gave them a way back into the match, scoring from the penalty spot on 62 minutes after Thibaut Courtois brought down the English striker.

Arsenal shot up the table afer a much-needed 3-0 victory over Bournemouth.

Danny Welbeck found the net either side of the break, while Alexandre Lacazette scored on 27 minutes.

Southampton fell to their first defeat of the season as Watford climbed to fourth after a 2-0 win at St Mary’s.

Abdoulaye Doucoure put the Hornets ahead on 38 minutes before Daryl Janmaat put the game to bed midway through the second half.

Brighton secured their first top-flight win in 34 years with a 3-1 victory over West Brom.

Pascal Gross hit a brace before Tomer Hemed put Brighton 3-0 up with less than half an hour to play. James Morrison scored a consolation for the Baggies.
